SUNDAY JULY 30TH
MID SUMMER DINNER WITH CHEF FRANKLIN LIAO OF SAN FRANCISCO'S THE BATTERY RESTUARANT
LONELY MOUNTAIN FARM 161 PIONEER ROAD WATSONVILLE, CA
FRANKLIN LIAO – SOUS CHEF AT THE BATTERY
As chef he is responsible for locating the freshest, most local and nearly always organic ingredients that he then transformed into hand made cuisine. Frank is a loyal Lonely Mountain Farm customer purchasing several specialty items from our stand each week at the San Francisco Ferry Building to use in preparation for the restaurant at The Battery, a members only club.
Frank, 35, did not set out on a traditional path to restaurant kitchens. He grew up in a family where there was always delicious food on the table from his mother and grandmother. A time, unknowingly to him, when strong principles of good nutritious and delicious eating were instilled. During his time in business school at The University of Denver the allure of cooking for friends captured Franks curiosity.
After dabbling in financial services for a few years Frank traded in his desk job in pursuit of his growing passion in food. The last eight years have brought Franklin to kitchens in France, Boston and San Francisco. He credits Patrick Frechin, Ken Oringer, Andres Julian Grundy, David Bazirgan, and Nicolai Lipscomb for all of their mentorship and contribution to his career.
Since moving to San Francisco in 2011, Frank’s cooking has been shaped by the bounty of the northern California landscape. Though Frank appreciates and draws influence from european culinary tradition he relishes in the spirit of contemporary American cooking where food is left to a broader interpretation. Frank focuses his cooking style toward ‘relaxed elegance’ with a stress on in-season, high quality ingredients.
When Molly and Ken came onto the The Ferry Building farmers market scene in 2016 Frank forged a natural bond. Sharing delicious and thoughtful food is a wonderful experience when partnered with strong stewards of the land and providers of nutritious food to the community.
